Roasting
Coffee Roasting Explained
The key to producing high quality, fresh roasted coffee contains three key ingredients – quality beans, consistent roasting and tight linkages between those who purchase green coffee and roast blend and brew it.
Coffee roasting is somewhat of a perplexing situation that relies on skilled individuals, quality coffee and trial and error. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to roast coffee, as a single bean may lend itself to many degrees of roast, and many more ways of achieving that roast. Many variables affect roasting, some of these variables we can control others we cannot. In order to maintain a strict method of consistency, roast recipes, or roast profiles are developed for each individual roast and are followed with exacting care to ensure that the finished product is identical each time.
There are several coffee roasting sections on The Best Cup of Coffee website. Here they have been broken down into key areas that are important to the coffee roasting process.
